 The surgeries most times involved breaking the leg bone or in one surgery he had his bone broken and combined with a titanium rod. The rod was later inserted in the leg at an angle of 90 degrees so that it could hold the shoe together, after this surgery he wore 23 inch (58.42 centimeters) shoe.

The surgery he had to do was so risky because the doctor was mingling with something that was already seen as impossible to repair. The surgery took place in July 2000 and the results revealed that Shaq had got a great improved on his ankles. He now has a much better base for him to play on.

The doctor who performed the surgery claims that in some cases, it could take almost 3 years for the bone healing to be complete and also claimed that if it is not fully healed, it can lead to Shaq's retirement from basketball.
